The Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship heads North to Scotland this weekend where WSR MG drivers Anthony Reid and Colin Turkington will tackle the tight circuit of Knockhill. Leading the Independents Trophy and closing the gap at the top of the Drivers Championship there’s all to play for.
Both drivers consider Knockhill to be something of a home circuit. Although Anthony Reid now lives in Oxford, he was born in Glasgow and was educated five miles from the circuit at Loretto, which incidentally is the same school that Jim Clark attended. Anthony is excited at the prospect of returning to the circuit after its year absence from the BTCC calendar.
Anthony said: "I’m looking to qualify well for the opening round. The MG ZS has been the fastest car on track in the last six races, so I’ve got high hopes for this weekend and I’m ultimately out for race wins. I’m leading the Independents Trophy and closing the gap at the top of the Drivers Championship. With 12 races to go and lots of points up for grabs, anything can happen!"
Whilst Colin Turkington is temporarily back home in Northern Ireland, Scotland has been like a second home having recently graduated with a business degree from Stirling University. Taking a break from his studies, he can now focus 100% on his racing. Colin said: “I’ll assess my strategy after qualifying, for which I will be carrying success ballast following my third place finish at Croft. Knockhill is a tight circuit and there are not many passing places so the reverse grid tactics may come into play for the second race! I’m keen to earn as many points as possible towards the Independents Trophy.”
Team principal Dick Bennetts added: “With another win last time out at Croft the WSR team are continuously improving. The characteristics and set-up of the MG ZS should be suited to Knockhill and anything less than a win will be disappointing! We’re not in this Championship to make up the numbers. We’re an Independent team still looking for financial backing but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to take the fight to the Vauxhall’s all the way. ”
