Team PSP: Competition hots up at Brands Hatch for Team PSP in BTCC

Qualifying results - Saturday 24 April, Brands Hatch Indy circuit

Team PSP 's drivers revelled in the heat of the qualifying action on the short and challenging Indy circuit at Brands Hatch. Fariqe Hairuman put in an impressive number of laps with a consistent and level-headed performance that belied his lack of experience in BTCC. Shaun Watson Smith was on the way to a strong top-ten grid position until a broken damper curtailed his challenge. However, both drivers are confident of a good race setup that will give them the chance to shine in the three sprint races tomorrow.

Fariqe Hairuman: "I used the free practice sessions to acclimatise myself and get more track time. The Indy track is short, busy and hard work but my physical fitness helped a lot. I was pleased with my performance and look forward to some great racing tomorrow."

Shaun Watson Smith: "We had a rather disjointed practice session and then a damper broke in qualifying. Shame - I reckon we had the setup to get a strong top-ten grid position. I'm happy we have a good race setup so I'll have to put in some serious overtaking tomorrow."

Mike Carroll (Chief Engineer): "We tried some new ideas out and then had a damper problem which spoiled Shaun's chances of a better grid position. However, the leading BTCC pack is so close now - less than 0.5 seconds covers the top twelve cars so there's very little in it. I think there will be plenty of exciting action tomorrow."

David Wong (Team Principal): "Both drivers have closed the gap to the front runners in qualifying. We have a good race chassis - tomorrow it'll be a fast and furious first race with a lot of close competition. We expect to be in the thick of it - and this time I hope we avoid being the victims of racing incidents."
