Seat Sport UK: SEAT DRIVERS READY TO MAKE FATHER’S DAY AT OULTON
cSEAT Sport UK drivers Jason Plato, James Pickford and Luke Hines are well supported at every circuit they race at but it’s not only their fans that are cheering them on. Behind the scenes are three very devoted fathers who’ll be glued to the monitors in the SEAT garage on Sunday 19th June willing their sons to do well. That day is more special than most, as not only is it race day at Oulton Park for Rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship but it’s also Father’s Day and Jason, James and Luke will be doubly eager to win and give their dads Tim, Keith and Martin a day to remember.

SEAT will arrive at Oulton Park aiming to maintain its strong challenge for the Manufacturers’ Championship and score more podium results. All three drivers have performed well in their SEAT Toldeo Cupras in the opening three race meetings of the season, with Jason securing his third podium at Brands Hatch and James and Luke looking to improve on their 4th and 5th highest placed finishes to date. One thing’s for sure – there will be three proud fathers waiting in the wings ready to watch the champagne flow.

Mr Tim Plato said: “I think Jason’s getting on extremely well this year in view of the problems he’s faced. He’s consistently scoring points and he knows what he’s got to do. I think his performance at Brands Hatch was stunning under the circumstances. His ability never ceases to amaze me and in terms of his demeanour he’s certainly more relaxed this year as I know that he definitely prefers the atmosphere at SEAT. The team takes things very seriously but there is an element of fun as well and the one good thing is that there’s no politics between the drivers.

“Jason’s always very quick at Oulton Park and has had many wins there in the past. How well he does at the weekend will depend on free practice and the tyre situation, but I expect him to be gaining places and getting some podiums. I consider it his duty to do well on Sunday seeing as it’s Father’s Day and if he doesn’t I shall be very disappointed!”

Mr Keith Pickford said: “I’ve been very pleased with James’ performance so far this year particularly in the opening two rounds. Brands Hatch was a bit disappointing but I think we’ve proved that if we can get the car set up well we can do the business. James has definitely changed over the past couple of years since he started to race professionally. He’s become much more serious as it’s all he’s ever wanted to do. I admire him because he’s really stuck at it no matter what else has come along to distract him and because of that we’ve always backed him one hundred percent.

“No matter what car he’s been in at Oulton Park James has always performed well and I think that if the team get a good set up on the car he’ll do well at the weekend. He’s definitely knocking on the door of his first BTCC podium which would be a massive boost to his confidence and I’m sure after that they’ll be no stopping him.”

Mr Martin Hines said: “Luke I feel has blended into the SEAT team with relative ease. It’s a young enthusiastic team driven by passion and there’s no better home for Luke. His race team and team mates have been superb and Luke is a little frustrated that he has not paid them back yet with some podiums. He was a great kart driver and then a single seater star but from ten years old he only wanted to be a touring car driver. I told him, ‘win a single seater championship and then you can try a touring car!’ In 2003 he got into a touring car and the grin has never come off of his face. One quote after winning the 2003 production championship tells it all, “I love every single moment of it”… it is as simple as that.

“Oulton Park is a real drivers’ circuit and Luke is a real racer who loves a close hard fought battle. This weekend will be a real test and I am sure the gloves will be off as Luke gets more competitive with his SEAT team. Shame about the hair but you can’t win them all!”

A 30 minute qualifying session takes place for Round 10 at Oulton Park on Saturday 18th June at 15.00, with three 15 lap races on Sunday, beginning at 12.15, 14.50 and 17.00.
