VX Racing is determined to resume its race winning form in the next round of the 2005 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park this weekend and travelled to Wales last week for testing in a bid to further develop the VX Racing Astra Sport Hatch cars.
Yvan Muller, who has claimed the Vauxhall works team's two victories so far this season is encouraged by the positive steps made at the last round at Brands Hatch and also during the test at Pembrey, Wales. "We are still learning about the car," explained the Frenchman. "Actually, you never stop learning, but when it is a new car, like the Astra Sport Hatch, the development process is much greater. It will be good to get on track at Oulton Park and put the work we have done into action. VX Racing's motivation to win is stronger than ever."
Colin Turkington, in the second VX Racing Astra Sport Hatch, was similarly encouraged by the performance at Brands Hatch, where he picked up a second place and two fifth places to move into fifth in the drivers' championship. The young Ulsterman looks forward to Oulton Park, where he hopes to close the gap on the championship leaders. Turkington said, "It's important to try and get as many points finishes as possible at this stage, but I won't be happy until I get to the top step of the podium."
VX Racing's third driver Gavin Smith, is keen to notch up some points after a run of bad luck. Smith has previously experienced success at the Cheshire track, securing a win in the 2004 Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Championship, and the Irishman is hungry for results. "It's been a frustrating season so far," said Smith "We've had the speed, but we've not been able to convert that into results. Oulton's a good track and it's been kind to me, so this could be the time to get some good points on the board."
Oulton Park will host rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the championship on 19 June. The picturesque venue attracts large crowds, and often produces spectacular racing on the twisty, undulating circuit.
VX Racing is aiming to repeat last year's success, when Muller and former team mate James Thompson scored one win each and two podium finishes to put the team on the way to the fourth successive drivers', manufacturers' and teams' titles.

VX Racing holds both the qualifying and the race lap records for the Island circuit at Oulton Park. James Thompson set both times in 2004, the quickest qualifying time standing at 1m 27.638 secs and the race time at 1m 28.805 secs.
VX Racing has won seven of the 11 BTCC races held at Oulton Park since 2000. Yvan has taken five of the wins, with James Thompson and Paul O'Neill posting the other two wins in 2003 and 2002 respectively.
Colin Turkington has a full-time job outside of his racing activities; when racing commitments allow he works for the Turkington family business, Turkington Holdings, which has now expanded to encompass the manufacture of building products and operates a property development arm.
A camera crew is following Yvan Muller this season. The resulting documentary, due to be aired on Motors TV and released as a DVD later this year, will give an insight into his private and professional life.
