Martyn Bell Racing: Bell pumped up for Snetterton weekend

BMW ace hopeful of consecutive points finishes

Barrow-upon-Humber racer Martyn Bell is focused on making further progress and fighting for more points as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Snetterton for the seventh round of the year.

The Geoff Steel Racing driver claimed his third top ten finish of the season last time out at Donington Park, despite suffering damaged steering on his BMW 320i in the final race of the day, and heads to the Norfolk circuit looking to build on the solid form displayed since racing resumed after the summer break.

Since that break, the team has continued to take steps forward in its first season in the BTCC, and Martyn is confident that more progress will be made at a circuit that will arguably be one of the strongest on the calendar for the rear-wheel drive BMW.

“I believe that Snetterton is a circuit where we will go well,” Martyn said. “I’m not sure why, but I’ve always gone well there and have won races in the past and I think it will really suit the BMW. The car likes the fast, flowing corners and it is really quick in a straight line, and Snetterton has one of the longest straights there is.

“After three solid finishes at Donington Park, I’m really pumped up for the weekend. There could be as many as 22 cars on the grid and I honestly believe that there is a chance for us to make a step forward. I have my targets in mind and I think they are sensible targets that we can meet.”

One of those targets is to add to his current points tally, and Martyn believes that Snetterton could well see the BMW fighting for a place in the top ten.

“We will keep progressing and will go about our work quietly until the others are given a real surprise,” he said, “but I feel that we could get a genuine top ten finish this weekend, especially in the final race when things tend to get a bit crazy!”
