Xero Competition driver Adam Jones will not take part in Sunday’s races after a heavy impact during free practice on Saturday.

“We’d just put some rear tyres on”, said Jones. “We’d done about three or four laps. I was just coming up to the end of the lap, I was on it as normal. Darren Turner came past me, fine. Then a Halfords car came up behind and then came alongside me on the Becketts straight. Next thing I knew I was backwards in the barrier.”

“It was quite a big one. I could see it all happening in slow motion. There’s a massive amount of damage and there’s no chance of getting it out for tomorrow.”

“I’ll still be here though. I’ve got a lot of people coming to watch from Scotland and Sweden, so it’s a bit disappointing. But I’ll just have to make sure they still have a good day out and let them know what it’s all about.”

It is an incident that brings a premature end to a season that has seen Jones increasingly unhappy with the performance of his Lexus IS200. The Team Halfords Integra involved in the incident was that of Gareth Howell. He later received two penalty points on his license and an official reprimand for his part in the clash.
