Paul O’Neill will struggle to make it out for qualifying for round 28 of the championship at Silverstone after a mysterious misfire restricted his running in the morning’s free practice sessions.
“We just really can’t get our head around what the problem is”, said O’Neill. “We’ve got a misfire. It seems to be electrical. When you go for the throttle, it’s clear and then it’s all over the place again. It seemed to be ECU based, but it’s not even that because we’ve changed that.”
“We really don’t know what it is. We’ve got the guys from Triple Eight looking at it and our guys are working on it, too. But we’re scratching out heads. If it’s a problem with the loom or something then we’re going to struggle to get out for qualifying. We’ll just have to push on and get out if we can.”
O’Neill made his return to the BTCC last time out at Brands, taking over in the Tech-Speed prepared Astra Coupe from Fiona Leggate. The engine in the ex-works car has proved troublesome on previous occasions, both for Leggate and former driver Michael Bentwood. BTCC qualifying is scheduled to start at 15:25.
