Team RAC drivers Rob Collard and Colin Turkington qualified 6th and 8th respectively for tomorrow's round seven of the 2006 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park.
For the start of the session Colin opted for a choice of dry tyres all-round on his MG ZS, but as soon as a dry line started to appear, the rain fell once again. A switch to a complete set of wet tyres saw his lap time improve to 1m38.441, but with 36kgs of success ballast it was difficult for the Irishman to challenge for a front row position. He said: "We decided to go for a dry set-up on the car and I suffered with some under-steer. I'm happy that I brought the car home in one piece considering the tricky conditions. I'm still pretty optimistic for the race tomorrow, but it would be nice if it were dry."
Rob followed the same tyre strategy and qualified well (1m38.372) but with his six-grid penalty, resulting from his Brands Hatch appeal being declined by the Motor Sports Council National Court, he will take to the grid in 12th place for the first race. He said; "I'm quite pleased with my position but it would have been nice to made up another couple of places. Unfortunately, I've got to start from P12 but I have a couple of Vauxhalls behind me, which is quite good.
In a qualifying session hampered with rain it was an educated guess in tyre choice, which eventually saw pole position for SEAT's Jason Plato (1m35.063).
Race two's grid is decided by the finishing order of race one. Race three's grid is decided by the finishing order of race two, but with the leading positions reversed. The number of positions to be reversed will become known only after race two when the winner draws a random number between six and ten.
