Team RAC warm-up for Snetterton with visit to Norwich FC
Thu 30th July 2009 Norwich City players were given a boost when Team RAC drivers Colin Turkington and Stephen Jelley paid a visit to the Colney training ground ahead of the Snetterton round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship on Sunday (2 August).
Turkington and Jelley met Norwich City's Owain Tudur Jones, Chris Martin, Michael Nelson and Matt Gill as they look to continue their fantastic form in the 2009 BTCC season.
27-year-old Colin Turkington, who leads the championship at the mid- way point of the season, took Team RAC's BMW 320si to Colney, where the Canaries were in pre-season training.
Colin Turkington said: "It was a great experience to meet the Norwich City players. They are definitely sporting role models and it was great speaking to them about the similar skills required to be a footballer and racing driver. It was a really enjoyable day and I'll be looking out for Norwich City's progress for the season ahead."
Talking about the BTCC, Turkington added: "I'm delighted with my season so far. It was fantastic going into the break leading the Driver's Championship and is real testament to Team RAC, who have worked hard to give me a great car.
"Snetterton will be tough as I will be carrying maximum ballast but we're hoping for a hot day in Norfolk, which will increase our chances of success."
Norwich City's new signing Owain Tudur Jones said: "It was fantastic to meet Colin and Stephen and take a closer look at the Team RAC car. It was very interesting to hear about the preparation and demands involved in being a racing driver. I'll be looking out for the guys this weekend and I'm sure fans going along are in for a cracking day of racing."
Talking about Team RAC's prospects for this weekend, Turkington's team-mate, Stephen Jelley said: "Snetterton will be a challenge for Team RAC. The nature of the circuit's long straights make it hard to get on the front row but confidence is high at the moment after great performances at Croft so we're eager to get back out there."
