Mat Jackson set to bounce back in Scotland

Fri 14th August 2009 Warwickshire racing star Mat Jackson is setting his sights on victory in Scotland this weekend as the British Touring Car Championship heads to the spectacular Knockhill circuit.

The Racing Silverline driver has put the disappointment of the previous Snetterton round behind him, when he finished second in race one but retired on mechanical grounds from the following two races. Despite having won at Knockhill twice in one weekend while competing in the SEAT Cupra series, he has yet to record a BTCC victory at the hilly Scottish track. But Mat believes he can put that right this weekend in his RML-run Chevrolet Lacetti.

“My best result in a BTCC car north of the border has been fourth – just outside the podium,” says the 28-year-old. “I want to go a couple better and make it a win this weekend. Snetterton was extremely frustrating, but I quickly got over the disappointment and now I just want to go out and win. I’ve already proven that I can take the flag in the Lacetti and I cannot wait to see how it handles around Knockhill.”

For the past two years the small and convoluted track has favoured smaller hatchback cars but Mat, who is based in Henley-In-Arden, believes that the larger Lacetti can do just as well.

“Knockhill is very tight and twisty so it’s not really suited to bigger cars,” says Mat. “But the Lacetti has a really strong engine so it will power up the hill that leads onto the start-finish straight. I have to say, it’s not my favourite track – I prefer something that flows a bit more – but that won’t stop me having fun.”
