Jason Plato snatches all important pole

Sun 10th October 2010 Silverline Chevrolet’s Jason Plato has today ensured the best possible start to his first of three races tomorrow in the MSA British Touring Car Championship deciding finale at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Dominating the top of the timesheets for much of the session, Jason’s best time of 48.725s proved enough to keep the Hondas at bay, despite the Cruze being laden with 45kg ballast. And whilst the team count what they hope will be their first of many points of the weekend from pole position, the pressure remains with Matt Neal sharing the front row of the grid in 2nd and team-mate, Shedden, just behind in 3rd.

Jason summarised: “RML haven’t stopped since Donington – they’ve been looking through the data to see what we’ve learnt over the season since we were here for the media day and have given me a great car. And when you have a great car beneath you, it makes it a little easier to do a good job.” And asked if he’s nervous going into the racing tomorrow, Jason adds, “There are nerves there, to be honest, but healthy ones. We’ve still got a long way to go, but mission accomplished today. We’re where we want to be and in doing that, have taken another point – which of course could prove vital.”

Team-mate, Alex MacDowall, has qualified 4th and, being the lightest of the title contending pack ahead, could just put the cat amongst the pigeons in what is promising to be without doubt one of the most captivating and tense of championship conclusions to date.
